Maureen FitzSimons' early achievements in the performing arts (now called Maureen O'Hara), would be considered, at least in the eyes of America, into the child prodigy category. As a person with Irish roots, surrounded as she was by gifted parents, and her family did this naturally. Maureen was welcomed into the safe haven of her parents on August 17, 1920, located in Ranelagh (a suburb within Dublin), Ireland. Marguerita FitzSimons was a gifted contralto. Charles FitzSimons was a successful businessman in Dublin who also owned a piece of the Irish soccer team Shamrock Rovers. Maureen FitzSimons was the daughter of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy, Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons complete this wonderful family. Maureen excelled as a sportswoman and was a gruelling athlete in sports when she was a young. This passion was combined with an equally natural talent for performing. She was awarded nearly every Feis Award for Theatre and Drama which her nation had to give. At the age of 14 she enrolled in the Abbey Theater to follow her goal of studying classical theatre and operatic vocals.
